Map Your Bike Network is a guided civic engagement activity that helps participants identify the people, organizations, meetings, and relationships that influence transportation decisions in their community.

Rather than focusing solely on individual actions such as riding a bike more often, this exercise introduces participants to the local systems that shape bike lanes, street design, public transportation, traffic safety, and walkability.

By identifying local advocacy groups, attending public meetings, connecting with city staff, and building relationships with other community members, participants begin developing the civic skills needed to contribute to long-term systems change.

The activity is grounded in behavioral science principles including self-efficacy, social networks, commitment, and action planning.

By helping participants move from individual environmental behaviors to community-level engagement, the exercise supports the development of active citizens who can play a role in shaping more sustainable, bike-friendly, and people-centered cities.
