The high school foyer display involves the installation of display screens in the foyers of high schools across the UK as part of The Amber Project, showing real-time emissions data from electricity and gas usage. The display changes color depending on the current emissions level and provides a visual representation of the school's energy consumption. Emissions are tracked in kilowatts for electricity and gas usage, and the schools are ranked on a leaderboard alongside 25 other schools in the district.

Key Features:

  • Real-Time Emissions Display:
    • The screen shows the school's electricity and gas emissions, with color-coded indicators based on real-time data to visualize energy consumption.
  • Leaderboard Comparison:
    • A leaderboard compares the emissions of 25 schools in the district, ranking them from 1st to 25th place, encouraging healthy competition.
  • Gamified Design:
    • Schools are awarded an earth emoji with expressions ranging from "sad and on fire" to "happy" depending on their emissions ranking, making the data more relatable and engaging for students and staff.
  • Behavioral Influence:
    • The display is designed to engage students, teachers, and ground staff to play an active role in reducing school emissions by adopting energy-saving behaviors.

The aims to influence occupant behavior in schools to reduce energy consumption by making emissions data visible, engaging, and competitive.
