Garden Blitz Challenge: Grow Food, Build Community

In the Earth Doctors Garden Blitz Challenge, students and families discover how growing food locally can become much more than a gardening project. It can be a way to strengthen communities, build local resilience and take practical environmental action together.

Students begin by exploring our global food system—where food comes from, the resources required to produce and transport it, and why locally grown food can play an important role in creating healthier, more resilient communities and ecosystems.

Then we turn learning into action.

The challenge is to recruit families, schools and local organizations to form a Garden Blitz team. Instead of every household trying to build a garden alone, families volunteer for one another—coming together to build one family's garden, then moving on to the next.

Many hands. One garden. Then the next.

Students and organizers learn simple systems and frameworks for recruiting participants, forming teams, coordinating volunteers and building local partnerships that can help the project grow beyond a single event.
