In collaboration with Sustainable New Zealand, this project aimed to engage local event communities, including entertainment and sporting events, school fairs, and markets, to adopt a new mobile, reusable product and washing service. This service was developed to replace disposable foodware such as plates, cups, and cutlery with sustainable, reusable alternatives, helping events transition toward zero waste.

Key Design Features:

  • Online Waste Calculator:
    • A user-friendly tool that allows event organizers to calculate the waste impact of their event, offering insights into how much waste can be reduced by adopting the reusable product service.
  • Waste Score System:
    • A waste score assigned to each event based on its waste reduction efforts, providing an easy-to-understand metric to track sustainability performance.
  • Event Type Comparison Map:
    • A visual map that compares waste scores across different event types, encouraging event managers to benchmark their performance against others and adopt the service to achieve a better score.
  • Strategy for Adoption:
    • A comprehensive plan designed to educate and convince event managers to switch to reusable foodware, highlighting the environmental benefits and long-term cost savings.

By combining data-driven tools with a strategic engagement approach, this project helped Sustainable New Zealand promote zero-waste solutions for local events and drive the adoption of reusable products.
